He is known for pioneering research advances in the life sciences and co-founding multiple technology, biotechnology and healthcare startups, playing pivotal roles in corporate growth, strategic investments and executive leadership. He has led the strategic development and execution of corporate R&D programs, manufacturing processes and quality system operations. Andrew also actively supports other emerging companies in life sciences as an advisor, consultant, and angel investor. Andrew's journey began in art school, where he learned to pursue bold ideas despite the risk of failure and discomfort of exploring uncharted paths. His love for math and biology eventually led him to a BSc at the University of Toronto (1997-2001), followed by a PhD at UCLA (2001-2005), and postdoctoral work at the University College London (2005-2008). In 2008, he joined the University of Ottawa, where he founded the 'Pelling Lab for Augmented Biology,' gaining global attention for research on plant-derived biomaterials for tissue engineering. As co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Spiderwort Inc., Andrew spearheaded R&D efforts to commercialize plant-based biomaterials for medical use, guiding the company through clinical and regulatory challenges.
