Spencer is the CFO and COO of FreightWaves. Spencer is a startup veteran, leading finance teams through periods of hyper-growth at four venture-backed startups: Namely, Plated, NJOY and LivingSocial. Over the course of his career, Spencer has played key roles in over $700mm in equity capital raises, $150mm in debt capital raises and $3bn of M&A transactions.

He joined Namely prior to the Series D to build the company’s FP&A department and lead the investor relations, sales operations and real estate functions. Spencer joined Plated following the close of the Series B where he ran strategic finance (FP&A, Corp Dev, IR and Strategic Planning). He ran point as the company’s “internal investment banker” on the company’s successful exit to Albertsons and the subsequent integration.

Spencer began his career as an analyst at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock, AR in the company’s corporate investment banking division. He later spent time at Blackstreet Capital Management, a $100mm special situations private equity group. Spencer earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas where he met his wife, Jessica. In his free time, Spencer enjoys playing tennis, watching college football and grilling out.
