Dr. James Cotton holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and has over 25 years of experience in thermal system design and research. He is a Professor at McMaster University and is a leading expert in the emerging field of energy harvesting and storage, where his research focuses on developing, modeling and experimentally validating novel devices to advance efficient thermal management solutions and combined heat and power systems, which include vehicle and commercial/industrial applications. Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Cotton spent seven years in industry working for Dana Corp., where he was the supervisor of the Heat Transfer Research team and provided research and development leadership by determining vision, strategy and goals for heat transfer related activities for the Division. He has been involved in over $54M in research as a co-applicant, of which he was the Principle Investigator on projects exceeding $13.5M since joining McMaster in 2007. Dr. Cotton is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
