Founder & CEO, MindfulGarden Digital Health,
"I love solving the puzzle pieces behind innovation — particularly in the digital world. I describe myself as a catalyst and a synthesizer, passionate about bringing together inspired teams, focussed design thinking, and emerging technologies around great ‘What if?’ questions." For over 20 years as CEO of Switch United, Catherine pioneered digital solutions for clients including TV networks and producers, video game companies (including Microsoft USA), and events such as the 2010 Winter Olympics where her team created a 110ft. long corridor that demonstrated how people's own bodies could activate sensors that would power changing stories on-screen. When CTV television network needed to accommodate the upload of over 16,000 ‘Canada in a Day’ videos from across the country in just 24 hours to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, the online hub and user content platform created by the team was described by the network as the most robust and glitch-free platform they had commissioned to date. By 2017, Catherine's personal story of the loss of her mother (esthersvoice.com), and her passion for challenging the status quo, had her asking: What if the same interactive technologies used in the entertainment sector were applied to Digital Health to find a new modality of care in the management of delirium in acute care? (This was the medical condition that had failed to be diagnosed in her mother and that had largely contributed to her death.) That year, Catherine pivoted to incorporate as MindfulGarden Digital Health, focussed on creating a new modality of care for delirium, the sudden and severe change in mental state that burdens North American hospitals alone with $90B in direct annual costs. MindfulGarden is now a clinically validated behaviour modification platform integrating biometric sensors, biofeedback, and video game technologies in a non-pharmacological alternative to psychotropic drugs as tool of first reach in the acute care of our older adults. The company is pre-commercial and in User Evaluations throughout North America. Note: Catherine is one of BC Business magazine's 'Top Women in STEM'; a former PROFIT magazine 'Women's 100'; member of the invitation only International Women's Forum; past committee member of the Canadian Media Producer's Association (CMPA); and winner of a number of industry awards including 'Best Interactive' at the U.S based Alliance for Women in Media's 'Gracies Awards.'
