Thomas Park

Vice-President, Operations & Strategy at BDC Capital

Thomas Park is a leader in the world of global venture capital investment, and his career to date has spanned global business management consulting, program management for a $50-billion-dollar foundation, and driving growth for BDC as their Director of Strategy. In 2021, Tom was promoted in his current role to lead the BDC Deep Tech Fund, a $200M venture capital fund that invests in Canadian deep tech startups. From 2017-2021, Tom was promoted as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Operations for BDC, where he manages a high growth portfolio of $5 billion+ representing more than 159 companies. Tom’s subject matter expertise in deep tech such as quantum technologies, public private partnerships, digital transformation, and emerging markets, has proven invaluable as he navigates the challenges and opportunities inherent in innovative and strategic multi-billion-dollar VC investment management.

Prior to joining BDC, Tom served as a Program Officer for The Gates Foundation, where he reengineered Senegal’s entire contraceptive supply chain infrastructure, changing the lives of at least 2 million women and girls and dropping deaths during childbirth by 30,000 annually.

Earlier in his career, Tom worked as a Senior Engagement Manager for McKinsey, leading their worldwide social sector practice and overseeing numerous special projects on behalf of governments and Fortune 100 companies. For the first eight years of his professional life, Tom put his law degree to good use as a consultant to the International Criminal Court, and in the Office of the Co-Prosecutors for the United Nations Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Cambodia.

Tom is a graduate of Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and McGill University. He sits on a number of boards at McGill, Ryerson University, and as chair of the Banff Forum. He was recognized for his leadership when he was selected as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2017.
