Edmond Atto

Senior Software Engineer

A full-stack software engineer with multiple varied experiences. I have worked in several settings both as an individual contributor and as a team-lead. I founded a company, Arvana, that was focused on building a digitized addressing system for Uganda. In so doing, I grew in multiple areas. I spent every day wearing different hats, often learning various skills in condensed time periods. I gained experience on many fronts; some days I was a graphics designer. On other days, I had my head buried in contract law in the mornings and ran pitch meetings to raise funds in the afternoons. Primarily though, I toggled between my team-lead and software engineer hats. All other knowledge areas augmented my core roles at Arvana. Post-Arvana, I continued my work as a software engineer, cycling through roles as an individual contributor/team lead, frontend/full-stack engineer, and remote/onsite engineer. I have worked with companies from Silicon Valley and NYC, as well as teams comprising members from continents across multiple timezones. As a self-taught software engineer, I’ve always had a desire to create opportunities and lower the barrier for others with a hunger to learn. This led me to create a technical blog (which receives 6000+ daily unique visitors), co-author a free E-Book titled Vumbula React: A Beginner’s Guide To React With ES6, and conceptualize a Learning Community with a focus on mentorship. To expand my view of self and the world, and to increase my capacity to lead and drive others towards action, I spent a year at Columbia University in New York as 1 of 11 Obama Foundation Scholars handpicked from around the world. During this year, I took courses on Analysis of Algorithms (taught by Clifford Stein), Psychology of Culture and Diversity, Corporate Finance, and Leadership and Innovative Policy Making. I also participated in multiple workshops/seminars/panel discussions with influential leaders in government, business, and academia, giving me multiple opportunities to learn from their own experiences. On the whole, the multiple diverse experiences that I’ve had coagulate in uniques ways to further increase my ability to view technology as a tool to solve varied problems and to formulate wholesome technology-driven solutions when required to do so. • Programming Languages: JavaScript | Python • Frameworks/Libraries: NodeJS | Express | ReactJS | Flask | Django • Databases: Postgres | SQLite | MySQL | MongoDB • Technologies: Firebase | Sequelize | TypeScript | Redux | Git | CSS | HTML | Docker • Others: RESTful API | MVC | MVVM | OOP A full-stack software engineer with multiple varied experiences.
