Ruggiero is dedicated to transforming the built environment through innovative approaches in design and operation, with a strong focus on Performance Based Design. With over 20 years of experience in sustainability and green buildings, Ruggiero combines his extensive knowledge in software and the built environment to provide quantified and impactful advice on both buildings and master plans. Currently, as the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Mortar IO, Ruggiero is leading the charge in virtual modelling and simulation for decarbonisation retrofit planning. Mortar IO aims to revolutionise this space by making retrofit planning more accurate and cost-effective, thus facilitating sustainable building practices. Prior to founding Mortar IO, he was working at IES Limited as Chief Product Manager for the Intelligent Communities Lifecycle. He focused on urban modelling, building operations and outdoor comfort. Prior to IES he was an associate at WSP Middle East; building specialist at Sefaira, a green building software startup (now Trimble); and a Partner at London based Max Fordham’s LLP. Ruggiero holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics. He is a UK Chartered Engineer and member of CIBSE.
