Chief Technology Officer, Passionate People, Product & Engineering Leader

I love building products and coaching people. I hate promoting myself so I broke it down into a list of who I am based on my personal and professional experiences.

1. I build great teams. My leadership style is that of a coach and I get satisfaction from seeing people and teams succeed. I want the best for my people and in order to do that I need to both challenge and support them at the same time. People amaze me with what they can accomplish if you let them stretch themselves in a supported manner. Sometimes this requires tough and honest conversations but getting to great is never easy.

2. I build great products. I've shipped many products for addressing different use cases and market sectors with different technology stacks. To be successful in building great products I follow some simple principles.
- Listen to your users, understand their challenges and problems. Don't do exactly what they say but instead search for the root of the problem and solve it in an innovative way.
- Ship it. It doesn't get real until you get a product in a users' hands. It will never be perfect so get to market as quickly and narrowly as possible with a solution.
- Ruthless Incrementalism. Once you ship, listen to your users and iterate. Constant and continual improvement adds up. It shows your users you're listening to them and continually delivering value.
- Expect the unexpected. I believe in planning but nothing ever goes according to plan. In the words of Mike Tyson - "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". Early in my career I struggled with keeping products on plan. Once I gave into the philosophy that the plan needs to change my work life and products got better. Expect the plan to change and embrace it.

3. I like to challenge myself regularly - get comfortable being uncomfortable. My wife can attest that I rarely sit still. I need to be learning and doing new things. That includes taking on new challenges at work, travelling the world, striving for average in CrossFit or dropping into some back bowls while skiing.

4. Family first. We've been lucky to have some great experiences as a family through trips around the world. I've also had the pleasure of coaching both my daughters in competitive sports. My kids are growing up and embarking on their own lives. I can still help with school but they're becoming adults. I pride myself on a 50/50 balance with my wife - supporting her career as I've also built mine. Our family dynamic has changed over time and I've realized is that there is no group of people I'd rather be with.
