I am passionate about designing and developing technology that helps people. I co-founded Aktiv Learning, a venture-backed edtech startup with a mission to improve student engagement and outcomes in critical STEM courses. As CEO, I defined and led Aktiv's product vision and corporate strategy, which resulted in growth from 2 to over 70 employees and platform adoptions at 700+ colleges and universities in just 6 years. In 2022, Aktiv Learning was strategically acquired by Top Hat in order to accelerate the company's growth and impact in STEM disciplines. I am now heading STEM product and strategy at Top Hat as we continue to expand the Aktiv platform across North America. Learn more about some of our innovative work at www.aktiv.com I received my Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where I worked with Professor Todd Przybycien to develop improved Protein A affinity chromatography resins for the downstream purification of monoclonal antibody drugs. While I was at CMU, I was awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the Ken Meyer Award for Excellence in Graduate Research in recognition of my work and outreach in STEM education that led to the founding of Aktiv. Prior to CMU, I received my Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cooper Union and gained experience in the biotechnology industry as a research scientist at Merck and as an intern at Ionis Pharmaceuticals. In 2010, based on my teaching experience, I created one of the first mobile video tutoring apps called Chem Pro, which was organically downloaded by 500,000+ chemistry students and received rave reviews on the App Store & Play Store.
