Assistant Professor at University of Waterloo | Statistical Machine Learning | AI for Intelligent Automation | AI for Healthcare and Surgery |

I am the Director of Critical Machine Learning lab, and an Assistant Professor in the Management Science and Engineering Department with cross-appointments in System Design Engineering and the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. I am also affiliated with the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute (Waterloo.AI), Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute (CPI), and Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics.

My research focuses on developing reliable and theory-guided ML solutions leveraging statistical machine learning, interpretable deep learning models, and spatiotemporal data analysis for critical inter-disciplinary real-world applications in AI for surgery, COVID-19, intelligent automation, and misinformation.

Previously, I was a Postdoctoral fellow at the Melady Lab mentored by Prof. Yan Liu in the Computer Science Department, Viterbi School of Engineering, at the University of Southern California. I undertook my doctoral studies with Prof. Jarvis Haupt in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
