Geologist graduated from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He initially worked at Companhia de Saneamento de Minas Gerais (COPASA) in defining water production sources and leasing tubular wells. He worked as a consultant carrying out mathematical modeling of aquifers, registration of springs and water level lowering projects for mining, focusing on drainage and also on possible impacts on surface and underground water availability. After a few years he joined Companhia Vale, working as a hydrogeologist responsible for lowering the water level at the Timbopeba mine in Mariana and Minas de Itabira. He coordinated the institutional water resources group, working to rationalize the use of water in the company's operational units, in addition to requesting and monitoring grants. He represented the company on a river basin committee, with direct involvement in legal issues related to water use.
