Rotating Equipment Design Engineer at Fluor

I started my professional career as a Rotating Equipment Engineer with Shell at the Albian Oil Sands Operations. In my two years at Albian, I learned the intricacies of working in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment and establishing meaningful connections. I was also mentored in troubleshooting rotating equipment, and vibration and lubrication analysis by an experienced team.

In 2017, I was hired as the first Reliability Engineer at the CNRL Kirby South and Kirby North SAGD Operations. In the first three years, I collaborated with the maintenance team to develop a care strategy for the most critical equipment. We developed custom preventative maintenance routines and optimized the spare parts inventory. Transferring my rotating equipment knowledge, I gradually expanded the program to include monthly vibration analysis, quarterly oil sample analysis and routine ultrasonic greasing of bearings. Later, stepping out of my comfort zone, I collaborated with the electrical team to develop a predictive maintenance program for electrical equipment. In 2019, we were able to introduce PdMA testing of motors and ultrasonic analysis of transformers and junction boxes. In 2020, my work scope expanded to the three Jackfish SAGD assets. Bringing in the lessons learned from Kirby, I spent the next few years creating a robust reliability program at the Jackfish sites: I identified the most critical equipment, introduced vibration analysis and ultrasonic greasing, and facilitated many RCAs and FMEAs to aid the operation in identifying bottlenecks. My methodical approach and organizational skills allowed me to successfully run the reliability program at the five Kirby and Jackfish sites.
In 2023, I pivoted in my career and took a job as a Rotating Equipment Design Engineer with Fluor Canada. I believe that my background in equipment maintenance gives me a unique perspective in equipment design. Leveraging my experience, I hope to continue to learn from my peers, expand my knowledge and become more confident and well-rounded in my abilities.

I have always had a drive to learn new skills. I take pride in seeking mentorship from more experienced individuals and I keep my technical knowledge up to date. I use my emotional intelligence to build and maintain connections and I work hard to adapt to the ever-changing nature of business. I keep a flexible approach to problem solving, but I have high standards for myself, and I am consistent in the quality of work I deliver.
