In 2014, Serdar, Kris and James joined forces to create Off2Class.
‘We couldn’t find teacher-guided lesson content for our own online ESL lessons, so we decided to create our own. At the time, teaching English in digital environments was nascent. No one considered how to leverage the power of the 21st-century classroom to deliver English learning experiences. High-quality digital content was rare. Creating new lessons from scratch took time, the time we could have spent teaching students. So, we built a website, loaded our first lessons and soon discovered a huge community of teachers facing the same issues when it came to teaching online.
We found ESL teachers hungry for high-quality digital content and time-saving tools. Content and tools that will free them up to spend more time with their students. And, when it comes to improving outcomes for English Language Learners, research (and our own experience) tells us that the more quality time teachers have with students, the better.
That’s the problem we set out to solve.
Over the next few years, we expanded our team and offering. Today, Off2Class comprises a diverse multicultural team that speaks 14 languages and spans three continents. We offer over 1000 lessons, interactive tools, assessments and dashboards. We serve teachers in over 120 countries. We work directly with schools and over 100 K-12 districts in the United States alone. We remain passionate about saving teachers time, delivering great online lessons and improving outcomes for English Language Learners.
To do that, we stay focused on serving our customers, namely teachers. When we started, we would handwrite thank you notes to every teacher who signed up. While the company has grown, we remain committed to serving ESL teachers. Regardless of what position they might hold, each and every member of our team will go the extra mile to ensure our clients have what they need.
We know teachers are the key to better serving English Language Learners and we will never stop working to make our product one that saves them time and helps them better serve their students.’
English language learning changes lives. Research is clear. Fluency in English opens the door to greater earning opportunities and improved life outcomes. English is spoken by over 1.35 billion people, the official language of more than a quarter of countries in the world. English is our global lingua franca.
Without this common passport, inequity compounds.
Too many English Learners are struggling. Research shows that the last few years have disproportionately impacted these learners, a student population that is the fastest growing group in the United States, making up 1 in 10 learners. Without focused interventions, the cracks of inequity will turn into an impossible chasm.
Meaningfully delivering high-quality education to learners means ensuring that every learner has access to high-quality language learning. We believe, and know from research, that teachers offer the best bet to addressing the inequities faced by English Learners. But teachers face huge demands on their time. Schools around the world struggle to find high-quality language teachers.
We are on a mission to solve those two problems. We build research-backed tools that save teachers time and allow schools to rapidly upskill new teachers. We also look to fill in the gaps, pairing schools with high quality teachers from our global network of instructors.
Off2Class is the ESL teacher toolkit that saves time and drives equitable English Learner outcomes.
