We connect people to recycling and brands to consumers.
When we learned that 86% of plastic never gets recycled, we decided to do something about it. We set out to fix the broken system and reduce the plastic waste that's polluting our rivers and oceans, hurting our wildlife, and contributing to the climate crisis.
We realized that the key to getting more people to recycle was to make it convenient, fun, and rewarding. And of course, we needed a business model that was scalable, sustainable, and - crucially - self-funding. So we got to work.
Inspired by our time at Apple, we developed our sleek, A.I.-powered recycling Cube to be beautiful as well as functional. It's stainless steel with a futuristic design and bold lines - a real showstopper. Aesthetically, we wanted our Cube to be the opposite of an overflowing public recycling bin. We did this to elevate the action of recycling, to help people see that an empty bottle wasn't trash but a valuable resource.
We reward recyclers with cash and perks and show them real-time impact metrics: think trees planted, carbon saved, and bottles recycled. It’s all about inspiring people by connecting the dots between action and outcome.
To make recycling as convenient as possible, we strategically place Cubes at spots people already visit: grocery stores, gas stations, and pharmacies, so people can knock out their recycling while picking up a quart of milk or filling the car with gas.
The challenge with recycling, is that while most people think it’s a good idea, no one wants to pay for it.
So, we turned our Cube into a media hub with a big, flashy screen. Ads play, and the revenue from those ads pays for the recycling. As we grow our network, we scale both the recycling and the media business—funding recycling through ad revenue.
With A.I. sorting tech, gamified rewards, and a funding model that actually works, we think we’ve got the blueprint for a cleaner world. Welcome to the future of recycling. Welcome to Olyns.
