Rowe first started raising grass fed cattle on his Guelph, Ontario farm in 1972. Rowe’s passion for producing animals without the use of antibiotics, growth promoting hormones or animal by-products is where the Rowe Farms Conscience was born.

At Rowe Farms we want to provide options for consumers that support Organic farming principles including the elimination of chemical pesticides, herbicides and any GMOs fed to animals.

At Rowe Farms we offer high quality, flavourful products that have not been fed GMOs.

At Rowe Farms, we don’t use unnatural growth hormones. Each year millions of cattle across North America are injected with synthetically made growth hormones. Naturally occurring hormones are a good thing – it’s the unnatural hormones we are unsure about. In 1988, the European Union banned the use of hormones in beef production and at the same time banned the import of hormone treated beef. Although scientists seem uncertain about any long lasting effects of synthetic growth hormones in our foods, we at Rowe Farms know we can farm without the use of them. So for the good of both our livestock, and our customers, we have a complete ban on the use of synthetic growth hormones.

At Rowe Farms, we understand that animals raised in a low-stress environment with clean air, clean water and solid nutrition are naturally healthy. We never use sub-therapeutic antibiotics. These low-grade drugs are often fed to animals to ward off sickness by conventional farm operations. If an animal becomes sick, we treat the animal with the most compassionate medical plan possible. If that medical plan includes the use of therapeutic antibiotics, we never sell the animal as a Rowe Farms product. This animal is segregated from the herd, removed from the farm, and sold as a conventional animal.

All of our animals are raised locally in humane and low-stress environments, without the use of antibiotics or growth promoting hormones. They have open access to food and water, and eat strictly vegetarian diets. It is important that the farms supplying Rowe Farms understand that Animal Welfare is always evolving and moving forward. We will continue to enhance our protocols to offer the highest levels of animal welfare that is feasible.
