What started as a collaboration between McGill University and cosmetics brand leader on the study of cellulose in cosmetics, came to be the company Anomera, founded in 2016 by a group of university scientists who developed and patented its innovation to produce carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) from sustainable forest resources. This nanomaterial technology revealed a bio-based solution that empowers both industrial and consumer products with sustainable solutions while improving their performance.
The proof of concept was realized with the support of Xerox Research Center of Canada. The buy-in from forest industry leader RYAM which followed came with the grounds to build a 25,000 sqft production facility in Temiscaming, Quebec, becoming the launchpad that would take our vision from bench to market, in partnership with Croda, a global distributor of cosmetics & personal care.
Three product lines and thirty five patents (and counting) later, the team is growing and our award- winning nanocellulose is forging the Anomera way for sustainable innovation across a broad landscape of industries, including but not limited to bioplastics, adhesives, coatings, and concrete.
