Technology for physiotherapy delivery in the ICU to prevent ICU-acquired weakness

Patients ventilated and sedated in the ICU are most at risk of developing ICU-acquired weakness. Muscle loss can progress as quickly as 2-4% per day. 50% of patients 65 or older, on a ventilator in the ICU for a week or more experience permanent disability.

The average cost of care for long-term ventilation survivors 1 year post-ICU discharge is $82,000 per year. This costs the health care system over $22 billion per year in North America.

Elaya develops solutions that enable neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy in the ICU to prevent ICUAW, improve patient outcomes and post-ICU quality of life.

These innovations enable effective therapy delivery to multiple patients in the ICU and provide valuable insights for evidence-based personalized care.

We are working with our hospital, university and college partners to develop our technology, gather data, and test our designs.
